How tools are assessed
Review Methodology
Understand the evidence behind a tool page: the criteria we use, how evidence is labelled and dated, and the limits of what we can say today.
Last updated 19 October 2026
Start with the reader’s task
Criteria should match the job. A consultant making one checklist for one brand needs different things from an agency producing resources for several client brands. We group our criteria by the four workflow stages.
| Stage | What we check in the vendor’s documentation |
|---|---|
| Plan | Can you work from your own brief and approved sources? Can you control or trace what goes into a draft? |
| Create | Output fit (checklist, worksheet or short guide), editing, readable PDF export, editable files, working links and form fields, brand settings, and seats or client-use rights for agencies. |
| Publish | Landing pages or forms, the resource delivery path, and whether marketing consent can stay a separate choice. |
| Nurture | Delivery and follow-up emails, unsubscribe handling and connections to the email tool you already use. |
| Across all stages | Plan prices and limits, add-ons needed for the task, licence terms and the full cost of finishing one resource. |

Label the evidence clearly
Research summary
Based on the vendor’s public documentation and other cited sources, each with a retrieval date. No hands-on use is claimed.
Hands-on test
Used only when the tool has actually been used for a stated task, with the date, plan and version recorded and the outputs kept.
Illustrative example
A scenario that explains a workflow. It is not a product test or a client result.
All current tool pages are research summaries of vendor documentation. Nobody has tested a tool for this site yet. Where a feature or outcome has no support, we mark it as unverified.
One brief for any future test
If we test tools hands-on in future, every tool in a comparison will get the same consultant brief: the same reader, approved sources, format and required output. Differences in plan or workflow that affect the result will be recorded. The test will be labelled with its date, the plan used and the product version.
Consultant resource
One brand, one approved-source checklist or worksheet, exported and inspected.
Agency reuse
Two separate brand briefs and exports, with seat and licence limits recorded.
Publish and deliver
A sample journey from request to download, checking that follow-up permission stays separate.
Any time claim would separate active editing time from waiting time and come from the recorded test, not from an estimate.
Record the basis of each page
Each tool page shows what was researched, when it was checked and where you can inspect the evidence.
| Product and plan | Plan names and limits as documented on the retrieval date. |
|---|---|
| Evidence basis | Research summary or hands-on test. |
| Source dates | The date each source was retrieved, shown with its link. |
| Access and benefits | Whether any free access, discount or other benefit was received. Today: none. |
| Scope and gaps | What the page does not cover, and what remains unverified. |
What every page records. This is a template, not test results.
Tool pages and their source dates
Every vendor source on these ten pages was retrieved on the date shown, as listed in each page’s own sources section. We have not set a fixed re-check schedule: a page is revisited when a product’s plans or features, or our evidence, change. So treat any price or limit as correct only on its retrieval date, and check the vendor’s current page before you rely on it.

Limits and conclusions
- Vendors change prices, plans and features. A page is accurate only as of its source dates.
- Documentation describes what a vendor says a tool does. It is not proof of the quality of the output or of any business result.
- We do not rank tools, score them or name a winner. Conclusions are conditional on your task and on the evidence.
- We include free or manual alternatives where they would do the job.
“May suit a consultant who needs one branded checklist a month, if the documented export meets your needs. Check the current plan limits before buying.”
Access and conflicts of interest
We have received no free accounts, discounts, sponsorship or other perks from any vendor, and no affiliate link is active. If that changes, the relationship will be disclosed next to the recommendation. Our own product, the Workflow Pack, is labelled as ours and judged by the same criteria. See the Affiliate Disclosure and the Editorial Policy.
What a future recommendation would need
A firm recommendation needs more than documentation. Before we would recommend one tool over another for a task, we would want:
- the same brief run in each tool being compared;
- exports we have opened and inspected, kept on record;
- dated records of the plan, version and price used.
This follows the direction of Google’s guidance on high-quality reviews, which asks for first-hand evidence and a clear explanation of why one choice suits a need better than another. Affiliate approval would never count as evidence.
Updates and questions
We revisit a tool page when the product’s plans or features, or our evidence, change. For a question or a possible error, use the contact form with the page address, the claim and your supporting source.
